Walruses are gentle giants, but their lives are filled with threats caused by humans and environmental changes. Climate change is melting the ice sheets and shrinking the areas where walruses rest and breed, while pollution and plastic waste make survival harder. Fish stocks are depleted by overfishing, and oil spills threaten to irreversibly damage their fragile habitats.

Walruses have over 400 whiskers that are so sensitive they can detect a clam on the seabed even with their eyes closed.

Walruses love clams — they can eat thousands in a single day! Instead of using their big teeth, walruses suck the meat out of clams like a straw.
❄️ Walruses love being together
Walruses are highly social animals and can gather on a beach or ice floe in groups of hundreds — like their own “walrus beach club.”
